THE WASHING MACHINE
In life we often find ourselves in situations that make us feel out of place , like a washing machine in the desert.
Yet, it is important to understand that it is no one's fault, much less ours.
Not all of us are lucky enough to be born into environments, with bodies or into societies that offer us the opportunities we need to fully realize ourselves. Therefore, we find ourselves surviving , similar to the washing machine that only runs in "dry cleaning" mode, unable to fully express our potential.
The work includes a performance .
The artist, who represents the superego, extracts sheets of paper or white cloths from the washing machine drum every time the timer rings, washes them and hangs them on wires positioned on the wall. This action does not happen always, but only sometimes: the superego suppresses negativities, trying to hide them, but fails. And that's why when it stops, we reflect.
In the meantime, spectators are invited to write on the white canvas their most intimate thoughts, the burdens they carry on their shoulders in everyday life.
The Washing Machine is a tangible installation composed of a washing machine and a neon tube configured as a luminous inscription. It can be placed both inside a tunnel and in an open space, as long as there is a suitable 90° angle to position the washing machine.
The location is carefully chosen based on the history of the Washing Machine, the narrative it conveys and the symbolism it represents.
